| Garland Girl Scout Service Unit 146, lost the meeting space for their troops and began to search in the community for an appropriate alternate. Nancy Nunez, Leader for Junior Troop 1443, lives close by Holy Trinity and approached the Rector to ask if they might meet there. |
“This was a great opportunity for us to live out our goal of becoming a resource to the neighborhood and at the same time partner with a wonderful organization that has tremendous appeal to girls in our parish. The vestry and planning committee were easy to sell on making this happen.” said Father Brown.
Service Unit 146 consists of: Girl Scout Junior Troop 566 and Cadette Troop 1310, meeting on Mondays, and Senior Troop 154, Junior Troop 1443, and Daisy Troop 3019 are meeting on Tuesdays. The Leaders meet the last Monday of the month in the gym.
A year later, Cub Scout Den 434 voted to change their meeting location to the church and requested that Holy Trinity become their chartering sponsor. The activities of all the troops will take place in the Sunday school rooms in the Annex of the Church, have access to the playground and occasionally meet in the Memorial Hall for larger assemblies.
This new partnership is re-introduced every year to the parish on Scout Sunday, the Sunday before 8 Feb. (because Girl Scout Sunday falls in the middle of spring break). All the troops are represented by uniformed members at worship.

The Service Unit is invited to set up tables to sell cookies in Memorial Hall during the coffee hour following worship that Sunday and the Cub Scouts are invited to recruit new members. The Rector has also offered to provide religious instruction toward merit badges to any of the troops that might want it.
Father Brown added, “This is a partnership, not a landlord - tenant agreement. It is our hope that these young people in the scout troops gain from meeting in a house of worship and the youngsters of our parish will be attracted to scouting as another way to live out their faith in service.”
